ICSI is an advanced micromanipulation form of IVF where an embryologist uses a microscopic glass needle to inject a single, carefully selected healthy sperm directly into the cytoplasm of a mature egg, ensuring fertilisation even when sperm numbers or motility are very low.
When is ICSI specifically recommended over standard IVF?
ICSI is indicated for severe male factor infertility (very low count, motility, or abnormal morphology), surgically retrieved sperm (from TESA/PESA), previously failed fertilization with standard IVF, unexplained fertilisation failure, or when using frozen donor eggs.
