What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and how is it performed?
IUI is a fertility procedure where specially prepared, concentrated, highly motile sperm are placed directly into the female partner's uterus through a soft, thin catheter around the exact time of ovulation.
Who is an ideal candidate for IUI treatment?
IUI is effective for couples with mild male factor infertility (low count or motility), unexplained infertility, hostile cervical mucus, ovulatory disorders responsive to medication, or couples using donor semen.
Is the semen wash and preparation done in-house?
Yes. All semen washing, separation of motile spermatozoa, and sample preparation are conducted on-site in our specialized Male Infertility & Andrology Laboratory, ensuring optimal sperm viability and immediate procedure readiness.
Is the IUI procedure painful?
No. The procedure is virtually painless and feels very similar to a routine cervical Pap smear. No anaesthesia is required, and the entire transfer takes only a few minutes.
How many cycles of IUI are typically attempted?
Most clinical guidelines recommend trying 3 to 6 IUI cycles. If pregnancy does not occur after 3 to 4 well-monitored cycles, Dr. Fehmida Shaikh will reassess your case and discuss more advanced options such as IVF.
What precautions should I take after an IUI procedure?
You will rest comfortably at the clinic for 15 to 20 minutes following the procedure. You can return to normal daily activities immediately afterwards, avoiding only heavy physical strain and taking prescribed luteal support medications as advised.
