Pregnancy in the Monsoon: Staying Safe from Infections
By Fehmida Hospital & Fertility Centre

Mumbai's monsoon brings a rise in mosquito-borne and water-borne infections. Simple precautions for expectant mothers.
Why the monsoon needs extra care
Infections such as dengue, malaria, typhoid, hepatitis and leptospirosis become more common in the rains. In pregnancy, a high fever needs prompt attention for both mother and baby.
Everyday precautions
- Use mosquito nets and a repellent your doctor says is safe in pregnancy
- Remove standing water around your home
- Drink boiled or filtered water
- Eat freshly cooked food and avoid street food
- Avoid wading through floodwater
- Wash hands often, especially before eating
When to come in
Contact your doctor straight away if you have a fever, vomiting, severe headache, body aches or reduced baby movements. The hospital is open 24/7 for emergencies.
