Laparoscopic Myomectomy

Causes

- Bleeding during surgery
- Fibroids may recur over time
- Very large or numerous fibroids may need an open approach
Diagnosis
- Ultrasound to map fibroid size and position
- MRI in selected cases
- Blood tests including haemoglobin
Treatment
- General anaesthesia
- Fibroids are removed and the uterine wall is repaired in layers
Recovery
- Usually 1–2 days in hospital
- Routine activity in about 2–3 weeks
- Advice on timing of pregnancy is individual
